Tissue Culture Carnations In 1992, Equiflor created a strategic business partnership with Propagar, the finest tissue culture carnation laboratory in Colombia. Our objective was simple: to consistently produce a visibly superior carnation for the U.S. market.

Chain of Life
Our commitment to quality and adherence to the Chain of Life program begins even before planting, at our laboratory in Colombia where we select the healthiest, most desirable varieties of carnation cuttings. We select only those varieties yielding the thickest and strongest stems with the most vibrant colors for scheduled planting at our Flora Tec Carnation farm, deep in the sabana of Bogota.

Once the premier varieties have been picked, we plant these cuttings in the rich soil within our controlled greenhouse environment. Our agronomists fertilize and nurture these cuttings as they grow to become robust carnation plants. When the plants are ready for harvest, our growers carefully cut and transport the flowers to our post harvest area. This is where we inspect, grade, hydrate and treat each carnation stem with Silver Thio Sulfate (STS).

Detailed Written Specifications
Our specifications set the exact parameters for pre and post harvest care, quality, color assortment, presentation and consistency. At Equiflor, we believe that quality is not a subjective term. True quality is reflected in our flowers consistently meeting each and every one of our 23 separate carnation quality specifications before being packed within our distinctive black boxes.

Flowers meeting each of our specifications are carefully packed and pre-cooled overnight at our farms. At dawn, our flowers are transported to the El Dorado Airport in Colombia and promptly loaded to our Air Carrier for immediate transport to the U.S.

Immediate Refrigerated Transfer
While the flowers are enroute to Miami, Equiflor is electronically clearing the cargo through our direct link with the U.S. Customs computer in Washington. This allows us to expedite the receipt of our flowers upon arrival. Once the flowers arrive in Miami, they are immediately transported to a refrigerated Customs & Agriculture Inspection Area. Within a short period of time, the flowers are released to our care. Our refrigerated trucks pick up the flowers and bring them to our state-of-the-art refrigerated distribution center, located a few short minutes from the airport.

Ready to Use
Flora Tec Carnations are packaged with color assortments reflecting the season of the year. It is our objective to provide our customers with the highest demand colors for the particular season, maximizing the value of the flowers by utilizing every stem. Our blooms are cut open and reflect a type 3 degree of cut. This allows our customers immediate use of the flowers and eliminates the high cost of holding inventory that is not ready to be used. It also provides a larger flower diameter with better opening characteristics.

No Rotation
Upon arrival in Miami, we immediately pre-cool & ship within 48 hours of receipt. Flora Tec Carnations are produced in limited volumes; packed in our distinctive black boxes & sold exclusively on weekly order.
