“Sustainability” is a word you probably hear often. For us, it is a practice that we take very seriously. Sustainability is defined as the ability to "meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Sustainability encompasses the protection and growth of our physical environment, as well as providing a healthy workplace for employees, their families and the community. As one of only a few VeriFlora certified growers and handlers, we implement a number of practices that help us grow superior flowers while making positive contributions to the world around us. Our farms go to great lengths to protect the environment on which our flowers are grown. Their chemical-reducing strategies call for only a minimal amount of pesticides and fertilizers, so the flowers are naturally grown. The farms use water sparingly in an effort to conserve water, and have very strict guidelines about the handling of waste and disposal of chemicals. Our entire company, from the farms to Miami, recycles all cardboard and plastics, and applies energy saving measures that make a difference.
Our employees are the heart of our organization. Our mission is to foster a wonderful work environment. At the farm, we provide free day care for workers’ children, medical care, clothing and food for employees. Our Miami staff is eligible for tuition reimbursement and debt management loans, and we regularly host holiday and other special events for workers’ families. As a company, we organize community blood drives, participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and give to many other community organizations. |
